Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
