Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate suitable to voice opinions countering the Trump government, fearing it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and further divisions within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars have no real impact at all on voter decisions.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has previously been open about supporting Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and stating she recognized during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Past Statements
Earlier in her career, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term feels different,” commented she of his leadership. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
New Release
Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who deals with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. During a press conference for the film in the film festival, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by stating that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”
The actor sought to redirect frustration about the conflict to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she said, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her performance in the new film. Although Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence said that she identified with elements of her role’s experience after the arrival of her new baby, not long after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a treatment called the prescription and I took it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
The actor also mentioned of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
