Shock as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The reason of the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.
Details of the Attack
Law enforcement indicated that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a building near the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the site overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, it was reported.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.
Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been attempting to locate them to find their location," added an official.

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the relatives are devastated to process his death.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were ready to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
She urged the citizens to not sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, above all for Stock's young family.

Apart from his media career, Stock was active in various business ventures, including security provision, providing high-level security services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

In a release, the network he worked for declared Stock was known for his charisma, kindness and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will endure".
