Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Raise Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.
Spurs let in two goals in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th Premier League at home loss of the year.
However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost possession well outside his area.
He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the sideline.
But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 metres.
Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.
Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
A particular of those booing sessions truly irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals can't be real Spurs supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind each other going forward."
Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second period showing.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally preventable".
"I do understand the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a great team player, he is a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy international Vicario is in his third season with Spurs.
He said after the match that he had to accept the criticism.
"That goal was a error of mine, I accept accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger mountain to climb."
He said receiving jeers "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to remain increasingly composed, to concentrate on our own performance. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's error, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second most distant top division score of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also occurred on the same day.
Wilson said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
10 moments passed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds following the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," he said.
"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little additional time. After that it was all about trying to make the correct contact and place it on target. I felt a good feeling, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Work Against You'
Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
Although the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against Frank's former club the Bees and title holders Liverpool to come prior to the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have come after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything seems to work against you as well – the opening was a deflected attempt, the next is a error from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a single story, today we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to develop."
Tottenham have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got take the stick," the pundit said. "He has taken a high profile role at a huge football club with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
