Suspected Harasser Questioned: 'However What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with stalking Kate McCann reportedly left her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court was told call records and data recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? Then what? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to know," the message continued.
The jury was advised that through emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with the police force who collated the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in that area in that winter.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the months leading up to the visit to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two accused, in last November, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
