Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first championship series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I want up in that situation other than Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this game," he added.

Toronto's team won the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
